posted 25 Feb 2015, 06:10 by Philip Mulligan

The committee will try to organize 3-4 outings this year, we can move them to Sunday when there isn't a clash with leagues.

Meet at Glenalbyn at 9:30 on Saturday 28th February. This is not a members event so anyone can accompany us.

Car pool from there to the Interpretive centre in Glendalough FREE PARKING.

Walk to lower lake then turn right on to the miners road, the more energetic among us will do the Spink Loop the easy way avoiding the 600 steps see below description of the reverse of what we will do. At an point up to end of the upper lake you can turn back ,after that it as easy to complete the loop.

Grade: Hillwalk

Distance: 9km

Time: 3hr

Climb: 380 m

This popular walk leads you through some of the most spectacular scenery in Co. Wicklow. (The name Spinc comes from the Irish 'An Spinc' and means 'pointed hill'). The trail ascends steeply up by the Poulanass Waterfall before joining a boardwalk. More than 600 wooden steps lead you to a viewing point overlooking the Upper Lake. The boardwalk skirts the top of the cliffs before descending through blanket bog and heath into the picturesque Glenealo Valley, home to a large herd of deer. A rough track then leads you back down into Glendalough Valley.

Finish at the Glendalough hotel for refreshments and a discussion on  aches and pains.
