It is with great pleasure that I can confirm the team won the final played yesterday in Landsdowne.
Showing the way and first back in the clubhouse was the veteran singles player Tom Gallery. Next in
was Paul Fallon who decided he better finish it off or Tom would never let him live it down.  This had
a very positive effect on young Michael Doherty who was playing on the court alongside Paul, and he
too decided to finish his opponent off quickly. All singles won 2 nil.

At this point our 2 doubles led by our esteemed captain Tony O’Byrne and George Leahy and the
other pairing of Johnny “Red, red red wine” Kelly partnered with “the old dog for the long road
“Tony Maher, were both 1 set up and leading the second set, so it was looking like a whitewash was
on the cards.

Special thanks has to be given to a long list of substitutes, but most notably Dave Mc Evoy, Gary
Younger and Richard Hjelseth, who made several appearances. Other players who subbed were
Chris Halligan, Joe Byrne and Colum Whelan.

The final was very well supported by the club, and a special word of thanks to the many ladies who
turned up to support the team.

Thanks to Landsdowne for hosting the matches, and laying on a beautiful lunch, and thanks to the
ladies section of Glenalbyn for extending the use of the courts on this prolonged league season.
