Next hike – Djouce Mountain - Saturday 3rd February

posted 31 Jan 2018, 08:34 by Philip Mulligan

This Saturday’s hike is Djouce Mountain from Luggala side, this is the easiest side from which to climb Djouce and it is not too difficult. It is mainly boardwalk and then on a path up the mountain but you will still need boots, all the gear and the change of clothes/shoes. It’s not too long a walk about 3 hours and the good news is I know this route very well!

We will meet in the Club at 9 or if you are going direct then 9:45 at the start point which is Ballinastoe car park on the R759 (see below). There are limited spaces here so we need to car pool as much as possible.

From Kilmacanogue take the road for Roundwood/Glendalough (R756), go past Djouce golf club on your left and then take the next right signposted Sallygap (R759). Continue on this road, you will eventually pass the sign for the Wicklow Way on your left and then when you get to the top of that hill you will see the gates for Lough Dan on your left (red signs). Keep going and you will see the car park before you get to the top of the next hill on your right. If this is full continue to the top of the hill and then as you start to descend again you will see a laneway on your right and you can park there. There is a brown sign with a walking man on it which say Glendalough 16km and a wooden sign on the bank on the right with Ballinastoe woods.

Please let me know if you are going direct so we don’t start without you. Forecast is ok though I think it will be cold and windy. Probably head to the Sugarloaf Café at Djouce Golf Club for the afters.
